"Ask the Expert"

When must a condo unit under possession be returned to the unit owner?

Q. Our condo association took possession of a unit in the building because the owner did not pay assessments for over a year. We rented the unit for two years and actually collected more than the owner owed.

How many people can live in a single condo unit in Chicago?

Q. I live in a small condo building. There are only two owner-occupants in our building. The rest of the units are rented. One two-bedroom unit has 8 people living in it.

Can the condo board make an exception to a "no pets" clause?

Q. Our condominium association's declaration states that no pets are allowed. A current owner is trying to sell to a family that has two cats and they are looking for the board to make an exception to the no pets rule.
