August 2, 2013 - Illinois State Fire Marshal Larry Matkaitis issued a statement regarding the proposed legislation to update Illinois' state fire code. The update would have required the installation of fire sprinklers in high-rise buildings and fire alarm systems with manual pull stations in all buildings more than three stories tall or ten units in size.
Due to the unprecedented amount of public input received, the fire marshal has officially withdrawn the proposed rule and has stated that the issue will be re-examined. For more information about the proposed legislation, click here.
